St. Peter's Abbey is the oldest church in Salzburg and the catacombs have been here almost as long as the abbey which was founded in the 7th century by Rupert, Bishop of Worms. They are a series of mausoleums carved into the face of the cliff beside St. Peter's Cemetery. Select the photo below to see more of the tunnels the monks carved into the rockface.
