UK and Europe Roadtrip - Bruges

Waterways now wind their way all through Bruges. The River Zwin once linked Bruges to the North Sea and it was an important international trading port. In the 1100s it gained city status. Soon after though, the Zwin River started to silt up. A waterway wasn't completed until 1907 to connect Bruges again to the North Sea and reinstate its ancient status as an ocean port.
