Like the Duc de Bourgogne restaurant (left) and the Chocolate Crown (right), many of the buildings in Bruges have these stepped gables. Saint John of Nepomuk was thrown off a bridge in Prague in the 1300s when he refused to divulge the confessional secrets of the Queen of Bohemia. He later became the patron saint of bridges.
