UK and Europe Roadtrip - Ghent

I love it when a castle has a moat and lots of turrets! Gravensteen, the Castle of the Counts in Ghent certainly fits that description. The gatehouse, ramparts, keep, count’s residence and stables are open to visitors. Count Philip of Alsace instructed that a Latin inscription above the entrance stated that Count Philip built the castle in 1180. Select the photo below to see more of the River Lys and its canal system.
