In the 1800s it was decided that people should stop looting the castle for building materials, as was the norm in those days, and to try and conserve what was left of the castle. Much of it needed to be reconstructed to make it safe and for the many visitors to the ruins that was becoming a popular destination. Select the photo below to see more.
