UK and Europe Roadtrip - Constance

Excavations near St Stephens Church shows that it was built in an area used by the Romans as a burial ground around the 4th century. The Diocese of Constance was founded around the 500s but an earlier church building was destroyed during the Hungarian invasion in the early 900s. Its replacement was converted into a Romanesque Basilica. Today's church is much different and bigger of course. I love the carved wooden seats in the choir, the many statues and the impressive main altar. Select the photo below to see some of the frescoes that have been uncovered during renovations.
