South Island New Zealand

Unfortunately it was overcast all day and by the time we stopped at Birdlings Flat for lunch it was starting to rain. This massive pebble beach has built up over the years to form part of Kaitorete Spit. If it wasn't for the rain I would have spent time fossicking around for small Agates amongst the interesting rounded pebbles that form the beach . The Little River Rail Trail skirts around Lake Ellesmere from here. It is an old well preserved railway line that has been revitalised into a public walking and cycling track.
