Rotorua to Auckland, New Zealand

We headed south down State Hwy 5 towards Wai-O-Tapu and took the loop around the thermal region. We spotted a sign to the Mud Pool so stopped to do the short walk around the area. This was impressive. There was steam rising all around us and sounds of erupting mud AND no entry charges. It was once the site of a large mud volcano, around 1920, which was destroyed by erosion.
