Lake Pukaki to Lake Aviemore to Oamaru

Lake Aviemore or Mahi Tikumu is one of many man-made lakes in New Zealand's South Island, and also part of the Waitaki hydroelectric scheme. In both Lake Aviemore and Benmore, you can fish for salmon and trout. There is a 1km long fish ladder that zig-zags up and down the side of this river to allow the fish to move above or below the dam wall. Select the photo to see the Waitaki Dam further downstream.
