Dunedin to Catlins to Bluff

The Larnach Castle is the home of the Barker family, who have spent over forty years lovingly restoring the building and recreating the beauty of the 14 hectares of gardens and grounds. William Larnach, in 1871, employed over 200 workmen for three years to build the Castle shell and then master European craftsmen spent a further 12 years embellishing the interior. After visiting the main part of the castle looking at the magnificent carved ceilings and collections of New Zealand period furniture and antiques, we took a break in 'The Ballroom' cafe before tackling the rest of the gardens.
