Invercargill to Fiordland to Milford, New Zealand Trip

As we crossed the Waiau River we spotted the Clifden suspension bridge which is a significant engineering achievement and one of the longest bridges in the South Island. It is an impressive structure built in 1899 and held together with steel cables, totara and Australian hardwood. The concrete towers are made to look like stone. The Waiau River is of particular significance to the Ngai Tahu so a 'Deed of Recognition' has been placed at this site. Select the photo below to see more of this area.
