Wanganui to Lake Taupo, New Zealand

We followed the coastal highway through Wanganui, across the Whanganui River. It seems the place goes by both spellings of that name. We stopped for a short break at Wanganui Gardens and wandered around Victoria Lake. We stopped at some of the beaches along the way. This stretch of the Patea Coast was called Waipipi Beach and the black sand beaches were strewn with driftwood.  Select the photo below to see more of this area.
