Wanganui to Lake Taupo, New Zealand

Next morning we headed back to the main road and on towards Lake Taupo. The lake is not its usual beautiful blue colour thanks to the terrible weather we were still unable to shake off. Driving down the western side of the lake it became obvious we were entering the thermal regions of New Zealand. We stopped at some of the beaches made up of volcanic black sand and pumicestone. All around the countryside we started spotting steam venting out of the ground.   Select the photo below to see more of this area.
