South West Norway

We had heard about the Roldal Stave Church from other travellers so decided to take a short side trip to have a look. As these historic churches (Stavkirche) were all made of wood many have not survived. It was built between 1200 and 1250, and is famous for its healing crucifix, still in the church. It continues to be used as the parish church for Røldal and is beautifully decorated. Well, so we are told, as unfortunately we couldn't get a look inside as we only had euros which they do not accept!
