Lake Pukaki to Lake Benmore to Oamaru

We stopped for breakfast at a spot that would have been another excellent campsite on the edge of Lake Benmore. I was surprised to see a large catamaran on the lake. Maybe someone's home? Lake Benmore was artificially created in the 1960s by construction of Benmore Dam. As with the other dams and lakes we have visited in the last couple of days, this is part of the Waitaki hydroelectricity power scheme. It was still cold so we set ourselves up on the end of Sailors Cutting jetty in the sun. Select the photo to see who that is on the jetty.
