As you enter Trier you see it must have been a very important Roman metropolis as far back as 16BC. Porta Nigra, the black gate, is the only one of the original four city gates still standing from those times. Select the photo below to see more of Trier, including some of the remaining Roman walls. The House of the Three Magi (Wise Men) originally built in 1230, is now a coffee shop with an impressive facade.
