Oyster Island and Espiritu Santo Island, Vanuatu

The warmer months in Vanuatu, from December to April, are also the wettest but that didn't stop us taking a trip to Oyster Island just off the east coast of Espiritu Santo Island. As there are direct flights from Brisbane we jumped at the chance. Previously we had stayed on Tanna Island (with the most active & accessible volcano) and on Efate Island (the most populated with the capital, Port Vila) which are just two of the more than 80 islands that make up Vanuatu. Espiritu Santo is the largest in the chain of islands and Oyster Island (also known as Malwepe Island) is only 200m offshore from the main island. As you can see here it has mostly dirt roads and many live in their traditional villages. Luganville is the only town and the location of the international airport.
